Process
In what seems like an ironic clash of philosophies, I believe that creative designs can only be brought to life through a robust process. I’ve found a formula that works to ensure that all options are explored, functional requirements are met, and schedules and budgets are adhered to. Here’s the design process you can expect when you work with Elegant in Design to change your life one room at a time.
01—
Meet and Greet
First of all, we’ll have up to a two-hour consultation so we can meet in person and discuss your interior design project. The entire approach is focussed on collaboration, so this initial meeting gives us the chance to get to know each other better. It’s also an opportunity to understand your interior wants and needs, likes and dislikes, how you live, and how you want to live. This is a big decision, so it’s important for you to feel comfortable that Elegant in Design is the right fit for your project.
Design consultation starts at $450 + GST (may incur travel costs outside the Brisbane area).
02—
Preliminary Concept Design
Once the project kicks off, you will get to see concept boards including colours and exemplar imagery which helps to visually communicate how I have interpreted your brief. Together we will explore how you want to feel in your space and how you will interact with and in your space. This stage is preliminary and indicative, but it will form the groundwork and set the tone of the design.
03—
Design Development
In this stage of the design process we expand on the solutions you loved from the concept design stage and re-work any that you didn’t like. This will progress the design to a representation of what it will eventually look like. This happens through a series of 2D and 3D digital perspectives and physical material samples. Spatial planning and furniture plans will be finalised in this stage and if required we will discuss specific furniture and decorating requirements.
04—
Specify and Source
This is when we lock down all materials and finishes that will be used and specify them in a ‘furniture, fixtures and equipment’ (FF&E) schedule for trade pricing. I will source the furniture and accessories and present them in professional proposals for your review. If necessary, we will visit specific suppliers so you can see the items before making your final decision.
05—
Technical Documentation
Things are starting to get serious now! At this stage of the process, you will see approved sketch design in a final design solution and produce full project documentation including all drawings, sketches, 3D perspectives and schedules to clearly articulate the design intent.
06—
Construction Management
This is where your dream starts to take form, with the design moving into the construction stage. Elegant in Design collaborates with a select group of trusted suppliers and subcontractors, some of whom I’ve worked with for more than 20 years. These trades work with me on every project, collaborating seamlessly and harmoniously. They are a big part of the success of my projects, and they are considered respected members of the design team.
I also understand that you may have your own trusted relationships, so if you have a preferred builder you know and trust, it’s always an option to hand over all documentation and act as your representative to liaise on site to ensure they achieve the design intent.
07—
Installation and Styling
Once construction is complete and builders and trades have left, it’s time to add the finishing flourishes! I will personally co-ordinate and oversee the white glove delivery and installation of all furniture, accessories and decorating items ready for you to move in and enjoy your new interior designed space.
And with the final item positioned perfectly, it’s time to take a deep breath, exhale and crack open a bottle of champagne.
