City Residence | Storm Clouds II

Brisbane Queensland

It’s an honour to be asked back to a home to do more interior design work, and I was thrilled to return to Storm Clouds in inner city Brisbane, to pick up where I left off. My brief this time around included the main bathroom, laundry, and a cheeky revamp of the master bedroom.

The main bathroom, laundry cupboard, powder room and hallway were combined into one functional area, giving the illusion of space and grandeur.

Again, my client remained fluid during the demolition process, which allowed for design changes that made the most of newly acquired space.

A walk-in shower, vanity and inwall toilet were added to the main bathroom, with built-in, floor to ceiling laundry cupboards flanking the entry, adding much-needed storage.

A mix of large format and metallic mosaic tiles were selected to compliment the striking epoxy floor and bounce light around the room.

Layered light designs delivered both task and ambient lighting, and a custom epoxy wall light was featured. The addition of motion sensors allowed for a night light under the vanity, and for both a light and fan to be automatically turned on when someone enters the shower.

Heated vertical towel rails utilised the available wall space and provided a practical drying solution.

Taking inspiration from the existing bedroom cabinetry of moody blues, a lighter shade was chosen for the bathroom and a subtle panel door complimenting the bedroom robes.

To futureproof the functionality of the laundry, the washing machine and dryer were elevated with pullout shelves housing the laundry baskets. When not in use, these baskets are cleverly stored in a cupboard above, which is accessible with the push of a button.

My client had upgraded to a king-sized bed, which required the creation of a new bedhead, cushions, and custom designed bedside tables, with New York glamour the oh-so-inspiring theme. I used cut velvet, silk and boucle, soft furnishing fabrics, and a colour palette of rich, deep blues, pink and grey to compliment the hard finishes and meet the brief.

As an interior designer, working with an open-minded client who shares my passion for colour to put the finishing touches on Storm Clouds II was an absolute pleasure.
