The Art House

Hawthorne, Queensland

When I start working with a new client, I never know the journey that is about to unfold. And this was definitely the case with The Art House, one of the most colourful projects I have had the pleasure of working on.

While initially engaged for an internal colour consultation, the home’s flamboyant owner and I quickly bonded over our mutual love of bold statement colours, and the rest, as they say, is interior design history.

White walls were not an option for this home, as evidenced by my client’s eccentric taste in art and accessories. Hence the name of the project – The Art House. Courageous wall colours were selected to complement eclectic artworks and add depth to each room.

Some of the client’s existing furniture was customised to deliver statement pieces that added even more interest and intrigue to an already fascinating space. We refinished the yellow timber dining chairs to a blue based fuchsia pink and added a collection of complimenting fabrics via custom-made upholstery seat pads. The textiles selected were deliciously different, and together they worked.

The result was a kaleidoscope of colour that not only delivered on the client’s brief and personal tastes but provided a holistic aesthetic for the home.
